Compost-A-Pak® is proudly an Australian family owned product.

The Singlet Bags are designed to replace plastic bags in retail businesses, providing the same convenience for customers, whilst also promoting their unique environmental credentials.

The bags are manufactured to a conventional size and a minimum standard of 30 UM, which ensures you can be confident that customers have the quality required to collect and transport their purchases. They are printed with the text ‘The Earth is in your hands’, and include information on the organic material, as well as the certification logos.

The manufacturing processes are driven by our sustainability goals. All Compost-A-Pak®products are made from a natural starch-based polymer derived from corn. Third grade corn, a non-eating grade, is sourced from international regions with high levels of natural rainfall to minimise irrigation. The blown bags are manufactured on purpose built machines, designed to minimise electricity consumption, and are then printed with soy-based, non-toxic inks.

Most importantly these Singlet Bags are Australian Certified compostable, for both Home Composting and Commercial Composting Facilities, so you can be confident they will break down in a composting environment with no harmful residue.

Why do we need an alternative?

Traditional plastic bags are made from non-renewable natural resources such as crude oil, gas and coal. In fact, if you derived the embodied petroleum energy from the 10 shopping bags many families use for their groceries, it would power the family car on the way home for a kilometre.

Unfortunately, Australians love the convenience of single use bags, and despite them being banned in a number of states, over 10 million bags are still used in Australia every day, the majority of which are buried in landfill where they remain for future generations as a source of potential contamination. Approximately 50 million also enter the Australian litter stream every year, creating greater risks for the environment and our native wildlife.

Whilst ‘degradable’ bags are often marketed as a sustainable alternative, they too are usually made from plastic, and just breakdown into smaller pieces, becoming micro-plastics which end up in waterways and are more easily digested by marine life.
